How to Create an Immersive Website Experience (Copywriting Edition)

Hey there, friend! I’m Tristyn, of Sipsy Ink - a copywriting studio for creatives. And I’m super excited to take over the Sunday Muse Design blog to chat about one of my faaavorite topics:

How to create an immersive website that draws your dreamiest readers in and keeps them engaged until the moment they land in your inbox!

This is the key to making a fantastic first impression and starting the client experience from the moment they land on your site – not just when they book with you.

What Is an Immersive Website?

An immersive website is all about using both design and copywriting that keeps the reader at the center of the entire experience.

So it’s less about you, your brand, and what you do (although those components are still necessary!), and more about keeping your reader engaged and wanting to take each next step.

Immersive Website: Copywriting Edition

Usually, when anyone thinks of an immersive website, they immediately think of the design aspect of it.

And that part is crucial! The design can, honestly, make or break that mesmerizing experience. That’s why I always guide my copywriting clients to a fabulous designer who can really bring the copy to life.

But there’s another major element to creating that hypnotic website that has your dream clients sending in inquiry forms.

That goes to your copywriting

The way you communicate with your dream clients from the beginning is one of the biggest ways to stand out in a busy market and stick in your ideal clients’ brains (like any Taylor Swift song ever).

I often explain it as:

Your website design grabs your dream client’s attention.

Your website copywriting keeps it and encourages them to take action.

So then, the trick is to figure out how to write a website that does exactly that! Here are my top 3 favorite immersive website tips (copywriting edition):

Immersive Website Copywriting Tip #1:  Break the 4th Wall

Whether it’s your laptop or your phone.

And whether you’re writing your website, an email, or an Instagram caption…

There’s something about sitting at a keyboard that makes all of us freeze up.

I think it’s because we’re not facing another human being. We’re looking at a screen. It makes us write like we’re dang robots, right?

(By the way, if that’s something that sounds scary familiar - please don’t worry! You are so not alone!)

So when we write for our businesses, we come across as too stuffy, too professional, too…stiff.

Not at all like how we sound in real life, right?

But the reality is that we’re not writing to a screen or a computer. We truly are writing to another human being! They’re going to be on the other side of that screen, wanting to feel like they’re having a legit conversation – not like they’re reading another website.

That’s why I love this copywriting tip!

When you break that 4th wall, you’re allowing yourself to scrub the screen away. It’s an invitation for you to take the pressure off writing your website.

Suddenly, you’re not trying to figure out how to write a good home page. You’re just … talking to a friend!

You’ll come across as more natural. And your dream clients will pick up on that!

So here are some immersive website examples on how to break that 4th wall:

Break the 4th Wall on Your Home Page:

Write like they’re standing at your front door, and you’re welcoming them inside! (Because…that’s kinda exactly what you’re doing.)

So try things like:

  • Come on in!

  • Make yourself at home!

  • Have a seat - stay a while. Just don’t mind the dog hair!

  • Welcome to our virtual home/office/living room

Immersive Website Copywriting Tip #2:  Pay Special Attention to Your Buttons

Remember that copywriting is all about getting your dream client to take some kind of action.

Before they ever reach out with an inquiry form, though, you’re already asking them to take a bunch of action.

Every *click* they make on a website is a form of action. And the more they click through your website, the more invested and engaged they become in your brand.

That means the more your brand will stay at the top of their mind when they’re ready to reach out!

And that’s exactly why paying special attention to your button copy and your call-to-actions is such a powerful tip to use!

So ditch the classics like “Click here!” and “Learn more!” (which everyone uses).

Instead, use more action-packed words like, “grab,” “snag,” “explore,” or “discover.”

For example, as you lead your reader to your services, try using:

  • Explore our services

  • Discover what we can do for you

  • Level up your brand

Immersive Website Copywriting Tip #3:  Tell Stories with Feelings

Maybe you’ve heard it before – “storytelling is what makes great copywriting.”

(Or one of the things that makes great copywriting.)

But how do you actually tell stories in your copy? How do you write a great home page that uses the technique that ~everyyyoneeee~ talks about?

Here’s the key: instead of telling stories with facts, tell stories with feelings.

Let me put it this way - you might have two readers who are totally ideal clients in personality, but their day-to-day lives look different.

So how do you tell a story that relates to both of them?

While their day-to-day lives look different, they more than likely experience the same kinds of emotions - especially when it comes to them looking for your brand’s solution to a current problem they’re facing

Those emotions are what you want to pay attention to as you’re telling stories!

Do they feel jittery anticipation and excitement about planning their wedding?

Do they feel overwhelmed or confused when trying to build a brand new wardrobe?

Find out what the common emotions are among your ideal clients and then speak to those in your stories.

In a world that’s constantly bombarding everyone with more, more, we (as business owners) need to find ways to show people that we’re not just “more;” we’re better

By creating an immersive website experience, we can do that! We’re showing our favorite kind of clients that we’re thinking of them first

So keep this post handy when you’re getting ready to write your website. And if you want more tips and tricks for writing a website that your dream clients can’t get enough of, then check out the Sipsy Ink blog
