The Struggles

Did she start by reaching out to me? No.

Like most small business owners, she started to design her website on her own. But she quickly realized a few things:

  1. She didn't have the time to do it. I mean, like you, she's wearing all the hats in her business while balancing life in general.

  2. She realized she didn't have the tech knowledge to finish it. She admitted she wouldn't be able to get her website on the level she wanted without some coding and expert help.

  3. She knows the importance of outsourcing. She's been a business owner long enough to know that there are things we, as entrepreneurs, invest in to take our business to the next level. She knew she would see an ROI on it all.

So for her—investing in Website Strategy & Custom Web Design was crucial.

And this is where she reached out to me.

Heather and I go back a few years. Rewind to 2016 when I was a new wedding planner. Heather became my mentor and coach. I took the online version of her wedding planner course, Planner Life Academy (if I had been on the west coast, I would have absolutely attended the in-person event... and heads up, planners: Planner Life Academy is one of the best investments I made in my business). Heather coached me and helped me get my own business where I wanted it.

Fast forward to 2022. Heather knew I had pivoted from wedding planning to web design, and in her words: "I'm not surprised you made this move. Design was always your sweet spot."

As the former co-owner of a premier luxury wedding planning company based in California, Heather had started her own company, Heather Hoesch Events. And she reached out to me to design the website for it.

I was honored. Humbled.

And so, we set out to strategize the online front porch of her new company.

The Goals

Heather wanted her website to be calm, professional, and luxurious. She wanted it to be simple and easy to navigate without too many frills. She wanted every element to serve a purpose to either communicate, add beauty and inspiration, or showcase her best work.

After digging a little further, I figured out she likes a blend of elegant, editorial, and photo-heavy websites.

And she wanted to launch her website confidently.

The Solution

Heather's color palette consisted of several colors: shades of blue, shades of rose, grays, and white. I knew we needed to narrow these down to 3 colors to exude a feeling of luxury and quality. So we ended up going with blues, charcoal gray, and white.

Heather loves serif fonts, so we kept her custom font from her branding with Heidi Davidson and incorporated with a serif font for all body texts.

The layouts in her website are simple but make a statement. You'll find large headings in a light color on each page that add a touch of class and an editorial vibe. Layered images and patterns help keep the site dynamic and interesting. And of course, the beautiful images from all of the talented photographers Heather has worked with, combined with her event design skills, help the site's visual impact.

The Results

"I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with Shannon. She is clear and organized, her expertise, kindness and ability to communicate well is so appreciated when you are working on something so important as your website, SEO and brand. She was incredibly patient with me and I am so in love with my site!" —Heather Hoesch

And honestly? Seeing all of the wedding and event professionals share her site launch on Instagram made me SO excited for Heather and all she has in store!
